Signature Scent: Do You Need One?

In 2023, do you need a signature scent? 

Short answer: DO YOU! 

However, because you want to really think about it, let's explore the idea. What are the pros? What are the cons? Time to discuss it. 

Back in the day, getting ready and dressed up for special occasions was an event before the actual event. To finish off the outfit, after the accessories, the scent of choice. This is the birth of the "special occasion" scent. It was expensive and to be used to signify something special, such as a wedding or fancy dinner.  

Fast forward to present day, where we live in a world of collection/hoarding and abundance. We now have scents for everyday of the week and every season. Anyone can have a collection of four to ten fragrances. Those that are REALLY into fragrances can have 50 or more bottles of fragrance. 

The signature scent is an olfactive calling card. It will let people know YOU were there. A beautiful finishing touch and an ode to having good manners because it falls into hygiene. But the question was if a signature scent would be needed. 

PROS 

• The main pro to having a signature scent is simplicity. No need to struggle or think about how you wish to smell. You can simple grab, spray and go. 

• Money will not be wasted on a huge collection that you will not use up. 

• When it comes to getting gifts, people will know what to give you. 

• No clutter, which goes back to the first point. 

CONS 

• In a nutshell, boring. There is so much variety in the world of fragrance and only having one scent is so basic. 

• There is the possibility of smelling "dated" or not current/with the times.  

• If you get bored easily, you will get tired of smelling the same thing over and over. 

When it's all said and done, you have to do what's best for you and your lifestyle. Personally, I understand the idea behind having a signature scent. I've had loved ones in my life that had signature scents and they will be forever etched into my heart. At the end of the day, you have to do what's best for you and your desires. Either way, you will be happy and smelling good.
