Winter Is Coming: Lips

Winter Is Coming: Lips

Cracked lips have never been cute.

Although we are now in Fall, Winter is coming and that means harsher weather. Yes, extreme heat is no fun and can cause issues, but so can extreme cold. When the weather is on the harsher side of the spectrum, cracked skin is sure to follow because essentially, the skin is dry. Below are just some things I would recommend trying to make sure your lips are not causing you to look like one of those iconic characters from The Chapelle Show.

Scrub Them Lips!

I strongly suggest that you exfoliate your lips. Yes, they too can get caked up with dead skin and cause you to look all kinds of crusty. Who is going to want to sip hot cocoa with you, let alone kiss you during cuffing season? To be honest, you can go out and buy a lip scrub or you can go the ever so popular DIY route. This may be one of few times I'd recommend going into the kitchen for your skin needs. If you don’t want to use sugar, I say use a wash rag to lightly exfoliate your lips or even try using your tooth brush. Regardless of the method, give your lips a fresh start.

Hydrate

With your freshly exfoliated lips, you will notice a softer feel. Now, it's time for hydration. One tip that I got from my IG homies is the addition of hyaluronic acid. This acid is great because it can pull moisture from the surrounding areas and can have a plumping effect.

The Balm

After having a fresh set of kissable lips, it's time to moisturize them. You can stick to your normal lip balm or try to change things up by buying something new. It best to keep them moisturized day and night. For the night time, I like using a lip sleeping mask. Yes, that pink tubed one. To be honest, it works great in the day time too. Please note, your lips will look a bit glossy, but they won't be cracked!
