Balms, Butters and Oils: Different Oil-Based Cleanser Experiences

Balms, Butters and Oils: Different Oil-Based Cleanser Experiences

I have purchased all three in my skincare quest. Below is my experience with them. Enjoy!

 Balm and Butter

So, the balm is a solid version of the oil cleanser. The great thing about a balm is no spilling all over your stuff if you travel. How does it work? Easy! Just dip your finger(s) into the balm and scoop out the desired amount. You can also use a mini spatula, if you have one. Your hands and face should be dry when doing this, by the way. Once you have the desired amount, or the amount it should take to clean the make-up, oil and dirty from your face, rub the solid cleaner together in your clean, dry hands to get it ready for your face. After a few seconds of getting the solid balm soft, apply to the face and work the balm into the face to get the stuff off your face. Take as long as you need to make sure the face is covered with the cleansing balm. If you wear makeup, don't be alarmed at the mess on your face. It’s a good thing! (insert Martha Stewart voice). Now, just add warm water and continue to work the mixture into the skin. At this point, you will notice that the consistency becomes milky, and it even looks like watered down milk. Once your entire face is wet from the water/oil mixture, rinse it off completely.

If you decide to try a butter cleanser, it is actually the same thing. The only real difference is the level of stiffness prior to warming in your hands. It really is just a matter of preference. The butter will make you think of butter on warm bread, but do not eat it. It gets milky too, so it's all just a matter of the oil cleanser's texture.

Oil

The oil cleanser is an oil/liquid (duh)! 2 pumps is generally enough to start to remove the day away. Again, use dry hands onto a dry face to work the liquid into the skin. Add water for the same milky look and wash off.

I'm sure you are wondering which is better or which one should you get? To be honest, it's all about the texture that feels best to you. Personally speaking, I like the oil. It just feels good to me. Although I have used oil cleansers in all three formats, the liquid oil reigns supreme, in my book. I urge you to try and see what you like.

P.S. I recently tried a jelly oil cleanser, which is similar to the butter, but it feels better...I have feelings about this...
