Slick Showers To A Supreme Clean: Using Shower Oils

Slick Showers To A Supreme Clean: Using Shower Oils

Next to songs, scents, and skincare, I love shower gels. I think I associate shower gels and taking showers to be more “adult” than a bath, or at least I did in my younger days. During my youth, I used bar soap. Please hold the judgement because I think it's safe and fair to assume you did too. Even in the shower, the bar soap was used. The overall object was to be clean, right? However, when I got older and could actually take showers, I would use one of the adult's shower gel. Why not? I was already in there! Fast forward and a shower gel monster was created.

One thing I can say is that not every shower gel is created equally. Some gels left the skin feeling clean and not so good gels left the skin feeling tight and dry. I try to stay loyal to some brands buy buying them, but also end up trying out new ones too. I think that led to the obsession and the abundance of gels at any given time.

Eventually, as fun as trying out new products was, I wanted something different. Per my usual routine, I ended up on a YouTube channel where someone mentioned using a shower oil.

To be completely honest, the only oils I knew of was either the kind you put on after to clean your skin to help seal in moisture and the oil you pour into the bath tub to soak and help with softening your skin. It seemed like shower oils combined all of that and the ability to clean the skin. What a fantastic combination!

Now that I discovered something new, I was on a mission to find a shower oil. In the video, the person purchased the shower oil from a French brand L'Occitane. One day while in the mall, I stopped by their store to look for it. This was around the holidays and sadly, the sales person said they were sold out and did not have any sample nor knew when the shower oil would be back in stock. I left and continued on my quest for a shower oil.

I walked to Bloomingdale’s and saw that they carry Kiehl's. I'm sure you have heard of them. They had a shower oil. The only thing that didn’t make me too thrilled was the price of the shower oil. I just thought $29 was a bit much. I normally like to try something before spending a lot of money and the store did not have any samples. The next best thing was getting the travel size. I left Bloomingdale’s and went right into Kiehl’s. Considering the size, it too was priced high, but I told myself if I didn’t like it, I wouldn't be out of too much money. I made my purchase and left the store.

Prior to any of that, I knew Glossier had a shower oil called Body Hero. It was part of their body care line. The only reason I didn’t order via Glossier is because I wanted to get a discount code and just really wanted to get the brand I was looking for originally. Eventually, I bought the duo. I loved the shower oil and the moisturizer was just okay.

The next day after the mall, I decided to get the shower oil form Kiehl's and test it out. I read the instructions on the back, but I decided to treat it the same way I would treat an oil cleanser for the face. With that mind set, I put the oil all over my dry body with dry hands. The shower was then turned on and I stepped in. As the water hit my body, I rubbed my hands against my body and watched the oil turn milky and rise off. Once all of the oil was off, I grabbed my washcloth and used the oil as directed. The end result was a nice, clean body that did not feel dried out. I applied my lotion and was so happy.

To date, the three brands mentioned have been the oil shower oils I have tried. All have had a light and pleasant aroma. Naturally, anytime a shower oil is spotted, it must be tried. Have you tried using a shower oil?
